Heads in the Sand is Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund's expanding campaign to expose members of Congress who continue to ignore the facts on global warming. Despite the overwhelming scientific consensus and looming threat, these members support a short-sighted Heads in the Sand energy policy favored by big-money lobbyists for polluting industries – all at the expense of wildlife, future generations and our national security.
These five members have supported giveaways, tax breaks, loopholes and government rip-offs that have provided billions to already profit-laden oil, coal and utility companies and other industries that have worsened our global warming problems. And they oppose common-sense, affordable solutions that can help deal with this crisis and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
Why do these five House members have their head stuck in the sand on energy policy and global warming? Over the last several years, these five members have collectively taken millions of dollars from oil & gas, electric utilities and coal companies, and other industries responsible for global warming pollution. This sort of pay-to-play attitude has allowed corporate special interests to jeopardize our national security and our environment.
The mission of the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund is to hold lawmakers accountable for endangering our wildlife, our wild places and our children’s future. There is no greater threat to these than global warming, and there is no greater threat to real action on global warming than members of Congress with their heads stuck in the sand.
